The criminal case against a reserve officer from the Maglan unit, who was investigated on suspicion of a serious security offense after a classified communication device was stolen from his vehicle, has been closed. The military will suffice with a disciplinary procedure of a reprimand only, as reported this morning (Wednesday) on the program "This Morning" on Kan News. The investigation was opened about five months ago. The officer was released from activity in the Gaza Strip due to a non-operational injury to receive medical treatment. During this time, his vehicle was stolen, containing military equipment: a vest, magazines, and a small classified communication device. As soon as he discovered the theft, the officer filed a police complaint. Consequently, an investigation was opened against him by the Military Police on suspicion of harming state security, an offense punishable by up to decades in prison. The officer was very surprised by the criminal investigation and the serious security suspicion attributed to him. In recent days, it was decided to close the case, and given the unique circumstances, to suffice with a disciplinary procedure within the military. The IDF Spokesperson stated: "Following the incident, an investigation was opened by the Military Police Investigative Unit, which was transferred for review by the Military Prosecution. At the conclusion of the review, it was decided that there is no basis for criminal proceedings against the officer, and that command-level treatment should continue in his unit. The recommendation will be transferred through the usual channels to his unit."
