The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) plans to inject more than $6.3 billion into developing the game, a move based on the significant financial returns from the latest World Cup. Two sources familiar with the plan told the Associated Press on Tuesday evening that the proposal includes raising allocations for each national association from $10 million to $25 million over the next four-year cycle. The plan will be funded from financial reserves strengthened by the financial success of the 2026 World Cup, which featured 48 teams for the first time. FIFA expects to generate revenues of around $15 billion during the financial cycle from 2022 to 2026, significantly exceeding initial forecasts. The proposal comes as European football leaders seek to select a candidate to challenge Gianni Infantino for the FIFA presidency, in an attempt to end his tenure.
