After the deadly dud in the north: US Embassy warns of unexploded ordnance across Israel
The US Embassy in Israel issued a safety warning to American citizens regarding unexploded ordnance and munitions, following the disaster at the Ramim Ridge where a teenager was killed and 24 people were injured. The embassy emphasized the high danger near border areas and urged people to stay away from suspicious objects and report them to the police.
A day after the severe disaster during the annual school trip in the north, in which teenager Elazar Yair Vilensky was killed and 24 people were injured by the explosion of a Hezbollah dud, the United States Embassy in Israel issued a safety warning to American citizens. The warning refers to unexploded ordnance and munitions found in wide areas of Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip. The embassy emphasized that the danger is particularly high near border areas, and that in many cases the locations of the duds are not marked. It warned of small, round cluster bomblets that may look like balls or toys and attract the attention of children. The guidelines it published highlighted the three-step rule: identify, move away, and report. The embassy called on the public to avoid entering marked areas, stick to known paths, and explain to children that it is forbidden to touch unidentified metal objects.
