Meteorologists link the worsening weather to a baric depression over the Bay of Bengal. In the state of Odisha, more than 70,000 residents have been evacuated due to critically rising river levels. Water levels in the Ganges, Gandak, Kosi, Bagmati, and Narmada have exceeded dangerous thresholds. In Nepal, according to Shanti Mahat, a representative of the emergency authority, 12 people have died since Thursday, and seven are missing. Floods and landslides have paralyzed energy and communications. In the Himlung Himal massif region, an avalanche hit a base camp, leaving 10 local workers missing. No foreign climbers were at the camp.
