The explosion occurred in the Plaka neighborhood, near the Acropolis and the Temple of Zeus, and caused damage to homes, shops, and cars within a radius of up to three streets. Emergency teams with heavy equipment, rescue dogs, and sensors located the bodies of the deceased. Among the victims were an elderly couple who lived in one of the apartments and the four tourists who were staying in another apartment. According to a police source, the tourists were supposed to leave for a flight but did not arrive at the airport. The Greek fire service announced the disaster yesterday (Saturday).
