The student, who was on a scholarship, watched a video of the attack and pointed at a terrorist saying "That's me." The university removed him from campus but clarified it has no authority to investigate the truth of his claims.

Maastricht University in the southern Netherlands temporarily suspended a Gazan student studying at the institution on a scholarship, after he boasted on social media about participating in the October 7 massacre. In footage filmed in the student dormitories, the young man is seen watching a video of the Hamas attack, pointing at one of the terrorists and declaring in English: "That's me." Following the uproar and concerns for the safety of staff and students, it was decided to remove him from campus and prevent him from attending classes. A university spokesperson confirmed to broadcaster L1 that the suspension was intended to ensure that education could continue safely. The university emphasized that it has no legal authority to investigate the background of the complaints. According to an investigation by De Telegraaf, the university brought the student to the Netherlands after filing a request for a temporary residence permit on April 8, which was approved. The student has about 30,000 followers on Instagram, where he uploads parkour videos alongside footage with jihadist movements. A post was found in which he wrote about the death of his brother in Jabalia: "I ask Allah to end my life in the same way as yours, my brother."
