Breaks a record in Israel: The university that will absorb the most students this year

Tel Aviv University expects an Israeli record of approximately 16,657 undergraduate students this year, with an increase of about 10% in the number of new first-year students. The growing demand is attributed to therapeutic professions following the war and growth in the humanities and social sciences.

Tel Aviv University expects an Israeli record in the number of undergraduate students at a single academic institution: approximately 16,657 students are expected to study there this year. The previous record, 16,375 students, was recorded in the 2021-2022 academic year during the COVID-19 period. The number of new first-year students is expected to stand at about 5,120 – an increase of about 10% compared to last year, the fourth consecutive year of growth. The university attributes the increase to demand for therapeutic professions following the war: in physiotherapy, the number of accepted students was increased by more than 20% (about 120 new students compared to fewer than 100 in the past), and in social work, about 120 students are expected compared to 105 in the 2025-2026 academic year. Growth was also recorded in the humanities – 759 new students compared to 566 in 2023-2024, and in the social sciences 1,457 compared to 1,188. The university's rector, Prof. Noga Kronfeld-Shor, linked the expansion of training to the needs of Israeli society, emphasizing the connection between academic excellence and social responsibility.
