In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, continuous rain since last Thursday flooded several areas of the city, especially in the central and eastern parts. The floodwaters caused traffic disruptions and the evacuation of residents from the flooded areas. Footage shows flooded roads and cars abandoned by drivers. Canals in the city filled with a cumulative rainfall of over 20 centimeters. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said officials are working to drain the water as quickly as possible, and he estimates the water level will drop after the rains stop. Shelters have been set up for evacuated residents and parking lots opened for abandoned vehicles. Thailand's Meteorological Department forecasts that the rains will continue until Sunday. In total, about 84,000 people have been affected by the floods since Thursday.
