Bar Kupershtein spoke about Yom Kippur in Hamas tunnels
Bar Kupershtein, a former Hamas hostage, told Channel 12 about observing the Yom Kippur fast in the Gaza tunnels, reciting penitential prayers, and his decision to stay and help people on October 7 despite having a chance to escape. He also organized a prayer evening at Hostages Square.
Bar Kupershtein, a former Hamas hostage, gave an interview to Channel 12 in which he described his experience observing Yom Kippur in captivity. Last year, while in the Gaza tunnels, he and other hostages decided to fast despite the difficulties. According to him, they began fasting a day before the holiday to save food for after the fast. The hostages also recited penitential prayers, which Kupershtein wrote down from memory, and others added to. He also recalled the events of October 7, when, working as a security guard at the Nova festival, he decided to help people rather than save himself, and according to a police investigator, his actions helped save over 2,000 people. After his release, Kupershtein organized an evening of penitential prayers at Hostages Square to thank those who fought for their release and to honor the memory of the fallen.
