Attack on diplomats in Binyamin: After release of 9 out of 10 suspects, police arrest another suspect
Police arrested another suspect, a 23-year-old from Jerusalem, on suspicion of involvement in the attack on European diplomats in Binyamin, about a week after the release of 9 out of 10 suspects in the case. The suspect denies the allegations. A judge ordered his remand extended by only 3 days, noting reasonable suspicion but not at a high level.
About a week after the attack on European diplomats in the village of Taybeh in Binyamin, and the release of 9 out of 10 suspects arrested in the case, police today (Sunday) arrested another suspect, a 23-year-old from Jerusalem, on suspicion of involvement in the attack. Police claim he owns a Ranger vehicle that was documented at the scene, but the suspect denies the allegations. Police requested a five-day remand extension, but Jerusalem Magistrate's Court Judge Michal Shavit ordered a three-day extension, noting there is reasonable suspicion against him but "not at a high level." The Shin Bet is assisting the Judea and Samaria District Police in the investigation. It also emerged that the Judea and Samaria District Police have not yet taken a complaint from the French diplomats and have been unable to contact them, even after contacting the Foreign Ministry. Additionally, they have not located the Palestinian minor injured in the attack, and do not have a medical document regarding his injuries. The suspect's attorney, Nati Rom from the 'Honenu' organization, argued that this is a serious and strange incident in which a pro-Hamas, Israel-hating diplomat entered Israel without coordination, and that their entry was intended to provoke.
