Are negotiations with the US underway — Pezeshkian reveals details

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that contacts between Tehran and Washington continue through the mediation of Qatar and Pakistan. He noted that trust in the US has been undermined due to attacks and sanctions following previous negotiations. Pezeshkian also reported on the condition of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, confirming that he is healthy.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in an interview with Al Jazeera, revealed details of current contacts with the US. According to him, diplomatic channels operate through intermediaries — Qatar and Pakistan, which relay messages between the sides. However, Pezeshkian emphasized that Tehran's trust in Washington has been seriously undermined after previous negotiations were followed by attacks and sanctions. He linked the current procedure to a memorandum of understanding signed in June, which was violated due to disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz. Pezeshkian stated that the crisis around the strait cannot be resolved militarily and advocated for a regional approach to security, saying, "We do not need a regional policeman." He also rejected claims of Iranian involvement in hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis in Yemen, expressing readiness to facilitate a resolution. Separately, the president reported on the condition of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, stating in a CBS interview that he is healthy and has no health issues. Pezeshkian noted that he met with Khamenei twice, with the second meeting lasting over seven hours, and the leader could sit on the floor and change body position.
