Ancient civilization could have existed on Mars - study
NASA scientists have discovered a structure resembling a doorframe in images from the Perseverance rover, sparking new speculation about a possible ancient civilization on Mars. Ufologist Scott C. Waring called the object a "portal," but NASA has not confirmed its artificial origin, explaining such formations as natural geological processes.
A photograph of the Martian surface taken by NASA's Perseverance rover has sparked renewed interest among proponents of extraterrestrial life theories. The image shows a structure among the rocks that resembles a narrow doorframe. Ufologist Scott C. Waring identified the structure as a possible "portal" of an ancient civilization and also pointed to a pyramid-like object with a dark opening. The image is a panorama of Jezero Crater captured by the Mastcam-Z cameras in June 2021. Scientists consider the crater promising for finding traces of ancient microbial life, as a lake existed there billions of years ago. However, there is no confirmation of the artificial origin of these unusual objects, and Waring did not provide data to assess their actual size. Similar claims have emerged after other Martian images: in May 2022, Curiosity captured a rock formation that, due to perspective, resembled a large doorframe, but its height was only about 30 cm. NASA explained that such structures can form naturally from cracks and rock erosion. NASA has not yet commented on Waring's latest claims about possible traces of an ancient civilization.
