Amazing tool that frees up memory discovered on MacBook – but there's a critical catch

A new open-source tool called RemoveMacAI allows users to completely delete artificial intelligence models from the macOS 27 operating system, freeing up to tens of gigabytes of storage space. However, using the tool disables all of Apple's AI capabilities, including Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, and ChatGPT integration, and security experts warn of stability risks due to manual intervention in internal configuration files.

A new open-source tool called RemoveMacAI is sweeping the Apple computer user community and allows for the complete deletion of artificial intelligence models from the macOS 27 operating system. The tool was developed by an independent programmer on Reddit and within days gained thousands of stars on GitHub. The move frees up between 12 and 35 gigabytes of storage space, particularly significant for users who purchased base models of the MacBook with a limited 256GB storage capacity that cannot be upgraded. However, deleting the models completely disables all of Apple's AI capabilities: the Siri voice assistant returns to a very basic function, Writing Tools disappear, image and emoji generators (Genmoji) are disabled, ChatGPT integration is canceled, and object removal tools in photos and code completion in Xcode are deleted. Alongside the loss of features, security experts warn of manual intervention in internal configuration files, as the tool relies on configuration keys that Apple defined as not recommended for use in previous versions, and a future software update may neutralize the workaround.
