Al-Dahshan to "Filastin": 2,000 buildings at risk of collapse in the Gaza Strip

The Director of the Civil Defense in Gaza Governorate, Brigadier General Raed Al-Dahshan, warned that 2,000 buildings are at risk of collapse in the Strip, including 700 in Gaza City alone, with rescue teams unable to handle them due to the lack of heavy equipment destroyed by Israeli shelling. Fears are escalating with the approaching winter and its accompanying heavy rains and strong winds.

The Director of the Civil Defense in Gaza Governorate, Brigadier General Raed Al-Dahshan, warned in a statement to the newspaper "Filastin" that 2,000 buildings are at risk of collapse in the Gaza Strip, including 700 buildings in Gaza City alone. He confirmed that rescue teams are unable to deal with these buildings due to the lack of heavy equipment and machinery, most of which were destroyed by deliberate Israeli shelling. Fears are escalating with the approaching winter and its accompanying strong winds and heavy rains. Al-Dahshan pointed out that civil defense teams face great difficulties due to limited capabilities, making dealing with collapses more complex. He added that the agency's crews work with primitive capabilities on three fronts: responding to citizens' calls, recovering the bodies of martyrs, and preparing for winter. Al-Dahshan stressed that personal protective equipment is a major problem, as the teams lack suitable shoes, helmets, and heat-protective clothing. There is also a shortage of equipment for handling the bodies of martyrs and contaminated materials. He emphasized that the occupation army deliberately targeted civil defense personnel and vehicles during the war. He noted that the Civil Defense is racing against time to communicate with international institutions and donor agencies to remove buildings at risk of collapse, warning that the approaching winter increases the risks to citizens living in these buildings.
