After the disaster in the north: the freeze on trips in the area has been lifted - will remain unchanged
The Ministry of Education announced a full return to trip activities in the north, after the IDF clarified that there is no change in policy. The return to activities follows the disaster during a trip of the Ma'alot yeshiva, in which student Yair Vilensky was killed by an unexploded ordnance explosion. Meanwhile, the Minister of Education instructed to refresh safety guidelines, with an emphasis on prohibiting contact with unexploded ordnance. The ministry's review found that the route approved for the trip met all requirements. The investigation into the circumstances of the incident has not yet been completed.
The Ministry of Education announced a full return to trip activities in the north starting today (Thursday), after the IDF clarified that there is no change in the policy regarding trips in the area. The decision was made a day after the disaster during a trip of the Ma'alot yeshiva, in which student Yair Vilensky was killed by an unexploded ordnance explosion. The trips will take place according to procedures, subject to approval from the Trip Coordination Bureau and the instructions of the Ministry of Education's Trip Situation Room. Meanwhile, the Minister of Education instructed to refresh and sharpen safety guidelines for the entire education system, with an emphasis on an absolute prohibition on touching unexploded ordnance, ammunition, and suspicious objects, and on the obligation to immediately report to the relevant authorities. The Ministry of Education's review found that the route coordinated and approved for the Ma'alot yeshiva trip meets all requirements of the relevant authorities and does not include sections that were prohibited for movement. However, the investigation into the circumstances of the incident, including the actual route taken during the trip, has not yet been completed, partly due to the injury of some of the trip leaders. The Minister of Education also instructed the ministry's comptroller to conduct a comprehensive review.
