After realizing he cannot stop Netanyahu: Adams with a new demand
New York City Mayor Eric Adams called on the United States to join the International Criminal Court and enforce the arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu. Adams made the remarks in an interview, after previously acknowledging that the city of New York lacks the authority to arrest Netanyahu. The confrontation between the two escalated after Netanyahu's speech at the UN.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams called on the United States to join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and enforce the arrest warrant issued by the court against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Adams made the remarks in an interview with WNYC, after realizing that the city of New York has no independent legal authority to carry out the arrest. The ICC issued the arrest warrant in November 2024 on suspicion of offenses including the use of starvation as a method of warfare and crimes against humanity. Israel and the United States are not members of the court and reject its authority. The confrontation between Adams and Netanyahu escalated after Netanyahu's speech at the UN, in which he attacked the mayor and claimed that many Jews do not feel safe in New York. Adams argued that Netanyahu's remarks were intended to divert attention from criticism of Israel's conduct in Gaza.
