Shin Bet chief David Zini has instructed to renew and expand the collection of materials and investigations against Israeli Arabs involved in acts of violence during Operation Guardian of the Walls in 2021. The decision was made after a review by the Shin Bet of the events of that year, a series of consultations, and an examination of the information held by the organization. Security sources stated that there are events where additional actions can be taken to exhaust legal proceedings against those involved in violence against civilians, arson, road blockades, and intimidation. According to Justice Ministry data, as of 2022, indictments were filed in 108 incidents against 239 defendants, 85% of Arab origin and 15% of Jewish origin, but only fewer than a hundred defendants received actual prison sentences.
