After deserters flew to Uman: reform at airport crossings
The Population Authority is implementing a reform at airport crossings following the departure of 64 Haredi deserters to Uman. The reform includes integrating artificial intelligence technology, surveillance cameras, and two-stage gates. Meanwhile, clashes broke out at protests by the Jerusalem faction against arrests of deserters, during which MKs Deri and Malkieli were rescued from the building where the Shas conference was held.
The Population Authority announced a reform in airport crossing mechanisms, following the affair of 64 Haredi deserters who flew to Uman and were only caught upon their return. The reform will integrate artificial intelligence technology, surveillance cameras, and two-stage passage gates. Entry gates will be upgraded this year, while exit gates will only be upgraded next year. Meanwhile, clashes broke out at large protests by the Jerusalem faction against arrests of deserters carried out in recent days. The protests lasted about two hours and blocked junctions on Highway 4 and in Jerusalem. Police rescued MKs Deri and Malkieli from the building where the Shas conference was held, after a crowd gathered around it. At the Shas conference, instructions were given not to allow yeshiva rabbis of a Haredi deserter arrested this week to meet with Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, out of fear that Sephardic protest against conscription before the elections would harm the campaign. The event ended without damage or casualties.
