Administration suspends Microsoft and Adobe from program for receiving workers via Green Card

The U.S. administration has suspended Microsoft, Adobe, and other major IT companies from the PERM program, which allows skilled foreign workers to obtain permanent residency (Green Card) through employment. Vice President JD Vance and Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling justified the move citing suspected fraud and a desire to push for hiring Americans. Concurrently, an investigation has been opened against nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, on suspicion of bringing in foreign students to lower wages.

The U.S. administration has suspended Microsoft, Adobe, and several of the world's largest IT companies from the PERM program, which allows skilled foreign workers to obtain permanent residency (Green Card) through employment. The announcement was made today (Thursday) by senior administration officials, who justified the move citing suspected fraud and a desire to push companies to hire more Americans. Vice President JD Vance said: "Our message to Microsoft is: you are a great American company, but you must hire great American workers." Labor Secretary Keith Sonderling added that the suspension also applies to Cognizant, Infosys, Tata, Wipro, HCL, and Capgemini, and that no new applications will be accepted and pending applications for permanent work certification related to these companies will not be processed. Concurrently, Vance announced that nine universities, including Harvard, Yale, and Stanford, will be investigated on suspicion of bringing in foreign students to lower the wages of Americans. The Inspector General of the Department of Labor, Anthony D'Esposito, stated that subpoenas have been issued and that it will be examined whether foreign influence, improper financial ties, or visa abuse harm federally funded research. He described a situation where a university violates the law to save a dollar while exposing research to a hostile entity as "institutional betrayal."
