Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed on Thursday his hope that the period following the formation of the new Israeli government would provide an opportunity to resume serious political dialogue, leading to peace in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. This came during a joint press conference with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides in the capital Nicosia. Abbas reiterated that the Palestinian leadership has extended its hand over many years to the Israeli side to achieve peace and provide an opportunity for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples to live in security, stability, and peace. He stressed that the goal is not limited to achieving peace between the two sides but extends to establishing comprehensive peace in the region, ensuring security and stability between Israel and all neighboring Arab and Islamic countries. He expressed his hope that the Republic of Cyprus would play a positive role in supporting peace efforts, noting that its geographical location, regional relations, and pro-peace positions qualify it to contribute to bridging views and encouraging dialogue. He emphasized that Palestine attaches utmost importance to achieving security and stability in the region, including ensuring security and peace between Palestinians and Israelis, affirming that the Palestinian side seeks to achieve peace through commitment to international legitimacy resolutions and principles.
