9-year-old who swam in Kinneret and contracted 'brain-eating amoeba' dies

Baruch Neria, a 9-year-old boy from Pardes Hanna, passed away after more than two weeks in which doctors fought for his life at Rambam Hospital in Haifa. He was infected with the brain-eating amoeba (Naegleria fowleri) after swimming at Kursi Beach on the Kinneret. His funeral will take place tomorrow morning at the cemetery in Pardes Hanna.

Baruch Neria, a 9-year-old boy from Pardes Hanna, passed away today (Thursday) at Rambam Hospital in Haifa, more than two weeks after being hospitalized in serious condition with meningitis caused by infection with the brain-eating amoeba (Naegleria fowleri). An initial epidemiological investigation indicated that he swam at Kursi Beach on the Kinneret about a week before his hospitalization. His funeral will take place tomorrow morning at the cemetery in the Pardes Hanna local council. Doctors fought for his life for more than two weeks, but his death was determined.
