40 children killed since the start of the year: the harsh data revealed

The Or Yarok association published data on road accidents in Israel since the beginning of 2026: 40 children and 55 elderly citizens were killed. The overall decline in the number of fatalities is attributed to reduced travel during the 'Lion's Roar' war. Jerusalem leads with 11 fatalities, and Israel ranks 30th out of 31 in Europe.

The Or Yarok association published new data on road accidents in Israel since the beginning of 2026, showing that 40 children and 55 elderly citizens were killed. In total, 368 people were killed, including 133 in private vehicles, 37 pedestrians, and 75 motorcycle and scooter riders. The decrease in the total number of fatalities compared to last year is attributed by the association to reduced travel during the 'Lion's Roar' war (February-April 2026), in which 37 people were killed compared to 62 in the same period in 2025. 62% of fatalities occurred on intercity roads. Jerusalem leads in urban fatalities with 11, followed by Tel Aviv-Jaffa and Haifa with eight each. In Arab society, 141 people were killed (38% of fatalities), a rate 17 percentage points higher than its share of the population. Israel ranks 30th out of 31 European countries in the relative change in fatalities between 2015 and 2025. The association calls on the next government to adopt a multi-year national road safety plan.
