A three-year-old toddler arrived at Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon bearing marks on his neck suspected to be signs of strangulation, as well as marks indicating a slap on the cheek. The child's mother brought him to the hospital, from where a notification was sent to the police. The toddler's father, a 48-year-old resident of Ashkelon, was arrested on suspicion of strangling him and causing him injuries. During a hearing on extending his detention at the Ashkelon Magistrate's Court, the police argued that there is reasonable suspicion that the suspect committed the offense, and that there are also grounds for detention related to ongoing violence against his partner. The suspect's attorney, Adv. Dogman, argued that this is a first arrest and the suspect has no prior convictions, and that the suspect takes responsibility and regrets the act. Judge Mishaeli partially accepted the police's request and extended the detention by five days.
