20 years of double game: the claim that embarrasses Erdogan

An Azerbaijani writer claims that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is fed up with Erdogan and prefers to strengthen ties with Israel and the United States at the expense of Turkey. According to him, behind the historic alliance lies a rift that could harm relations between the two countries.

An Azerbaijani writer named Akhadov claims that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is pursuing a policy of double-dealing toward Turkey and prefers to tighten his relations with Israel and the United States at the expense of his historic alliance with Ankara. According to him, behind the official alliance lies a deep rift that could harm relations between the two countries. The criticism also focuses on the Azerbaijani victory in the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War in 2020: while it is known worldwide that Turkish military support was critical to the outcome of the campaign, Aliyev tried to claim the victory for himself while ignoring Ankara's role. At the same time, Aliyev chose to deepen his relations with Israel, a major technology weapons supplier to Baku, and through it to establish closer ties with Washington. Akhadov warns that Aliyev is risking Azerbaijan-Turkey relations only to protect his power in the short term, and that he is sowing seeds of enmity between the peoples. According to him, it will take many years to heal the diplomatic and social wounds left by his policy.
