11 foreign nationals staying in Israel on tourist visas were deported from the country over the weekend, after being detained by security forces in the Hebron area on suspicion of violating a closed military zone order and interfering with IDF soldiers. According to the Population and Immigration Authority, the tourists refused to identify themselves to the forces and violated the terms of their stay permits in Israel. The incident occurred on Thursday in the Hebron area. According to a police statement, the activists were in an agricultural area declared a closed military zone, where no olive harvesting activity had been coordinated. Hebron police officers detained the 11 foreign nationals and a Palestinian citizen, and transferred them for investigation. After their detention, the foreign nationals were transferred to the Enforcement and Foreigners Administration of the Population and Immigration Authority, and each was given a hearing before their deportation. The deportees are citizens of seven countries: the United States, Hungary, Italy, Austria, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Ireland. The Population and Immigration Authority stated that it will continue to act against foreign nationals who exploit the tourist visa granted to them for non-tourist purposes.
