"You have no place in the group": Jewish comedian in London removed after saying he is a Zionist
A Jewish comedian in London, Harry Dinsway, was removed from a writing group after telling the manager he is a Zionist. The group manager, Ruby Sullivan, said his beliefs "support the massacre of an entire population." The UK Lawyers for Israel organization sent a warning letter alleging a violation of the Equality Act. A literary evening he organized was also canceled.
A Jewish comedian in London, Harry Dinsway, was removed from a writing group he had participated in for six months, after telling the group manager he is a Zionist. According to a report in The Telegraph, the group manager, Ruby Sullivan, asked him about his views on Israel, told him she was "very pro-Palestinian," and made clear that the political differences would affect their joint work. Dinsway replied that he is "Jewish and Zionist" but supports Palestinian rights. In correspondence, Sullivan responded: "I really can't identify with your beliefs, because they support the massacre of an entire population," and added: "I don't think you have a place in the Upbeat writers group because of this." The UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) organization sent a warning letter to Sullivan alleging that the removal could violate the British Equality Act. The confrontation also led to the cancellation of a literary evening Dinsway organized at a pub in North London, after Sullivan and other members withdrew from the event. The pub owners rejected the discrimination claims. Dinsway wrote in a column in The Telegraph that since October 7, he has seen an adoption of far-left politics at the expense of Jewish voices. The affair comes after the British Green Party declared itself an "anti-Zionist party."
