Esther Buchshtab, mother of Yagev Buchshtab who was kidnapped from his home in Kibbutz Nirim on October 7, 2023 and murdered in Hamas captivity in February 2024, gave an interview this evening (Saturday) on the program "Moving to Sunday" on Kan News on the third anniversary of the massacre. Buchshtab sharply criticized the conduct of the political echelon: "There was abandonment on October 7, and there was abandonment afterwards - that the hostages did not return, that some of them returned as casualties." She called for the establishment of a state commission of inquiry into the failures of the war, and noted that 46 hostages were murdered in captivity or killed. The family returned to live in Kibbutz Nirim in January 2025, despite the ongoing low-intensity fighting in the Gaza Strip. Buchshtab described the complexity of living near the line of fire and the commemoration of Yagev through social activism in organizations that help the homeless, refugee youth, and women in prostitution circles. The interview reflects the ongoing pain of the hostage families and the criticism of the government.
