Naila Mreish (23), a young mother from the Shujaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, was paralyzed after an Israeli airstrike targeted her tent in the Rimal area on July 8, 2025. In that attack, she lost her mother and was hit by two shrapnel pieces: one lodged in her lung causing internal bleeding, and the other struck her spine, fracturing two vertebrae, leaving her without sensation or movement in her lower body. Naila had previously been injured on August 28, 2024, in a strike in Deir al-Balah, and lost two of her siblings. She now lives in a displacement tent, suffering from skin ulcers and rodent attacks on her foot due to loss of sensation. She needs an MRI scan unavailable in Gaza, and a medical referral for treatment abroad that has not been activated. Her main concern is her young daughter who asks her: When will you stand up and walk with me?
