Officially, 18 deaths were announced, but according to five sources familiar with internal data from the U.S. Department of Defense, the actual number is at least 22. One source claims 23 deaths. Discrepancies were found in the open database. Not all unreported deaths are directly related to combat; among the dead are personnel in the Middle East and three contractors. The Pentagon refused to answer questions about the discrepancies. 14 deaths were recorded as occurring during the war, and another four are linked to the resumption of strikes after the collapse of the memorandum. Since the start of the war, more than 820 service members have been wounded. In March, the deaths of six American soldiers were reported as a result of an Iranian drone attack at the port of Shuwaiba in Kuwait. The drone bypassed air defense systems.
