What is the first law you will pass, and which portfolio will you demand? We asked, and the parties answered
Globes' fact-checker asked the parties what their first economic law would be and which socio-economic portfolios they would demand. The answers, arranged alphabetically, reflect different approaches: from canceling benefits for draft dodgers to legislating social rights. Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism, and Ra'am did not respond.
Ahead of the Knesset elections, Globes' fact-checker approached the parties that passed the electoral threshold in polls with 18 economic questions. The questions touched on central issues, and the current article focuses on two: what is the first economic law each party intends to pass, and which socio-economic portfolios it will demand in coalition negotiations. The answers are arranged alphabetically by party name. Likud, Shas, United Torah Judaism, and Ra'am did not respond to the questionnaire. Among the answers: the Beyachad party led by Naftali Bennett aims to bring the Haredi society into the Israeli tent by canceling coalition funds and benefits for draft dodgers. The Democrats led by Yair Golan focus on legislating a Basic Law: Social Rights and a public housing law. The various parties present diverse approaches, ranging from fighting monopolies to strengthening regulation.
