Nine people were killed when a Learjet 60 business jet crashed into a residential area in Palm Beach County, Florida. The plane, which took off from Austin, Texas, en route to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas, crashed around 12:50 p.m. local time. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed that all nine passengers were killed and called the event a "horrific tragedy." The crash occurred about 11 kilometers from President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, which he had left about an hour before the accident. Cockpit recordings capture the moments of distress: the crew reported ice buildup and turbulence, followed by a descent of 10,000 feet per minute, worsening to 20,000 feet per minute. In one of the final moments, one of the female crew members is heard saying "We're about to crash into the ground," followed by "We've run out of time." Tracking data showed a loss of about 27,000 feet within about a minute. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said there were no reports of casualties on the ground, and about 600 residents were evacuated. The NTSB has opened an investigation with assistance from the FAA.
