Haredi protesters blocked the Jerusalem Light Rail tracks near Bar Ilan Street on Thursday. Police dispersed the crowd after rioting and stone-throwing; one suspect was arrested. The protest is part of ongoing demonstrations against light rail expansion.

Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) protesters blocked the tracks of the Jerusalem Light Rail near Bar Ilan Street on Thursday, November 5, 2026, according to Israel Police. Jerusalem District police and Border Police personnel dispersed the demonstrators after they began rioting, blocking traffic, and throwing stones. One suspect was arrested for throwing stones at police officers and was taken for questioning at the Lev Habima Police Station. The protest is one of many by ultra-Orthodox individuals in recent months opposing projects to expand light rail routes in Jerusalem. In late September, five suspects were arrested after blocking the light rail near Haim Bar-Lev and Zaks streets. Rioters threw rocks and objects at police as trains were moved along the tracks. Police used a water cannon and stun grenades to disperse the crowd.
