Warning to parents: Anyone who owns a scooter with a speed of more than 25 km/h may go to prison
The Lod District Court ruled that electric bicycles that do not meet the legal speed limit (25 km/h) may be considered motor vehicles requiring a driver's license. The decision was made in an appeal by the police against the release of Dvir Gozlan, who was arrested while riding a scooter at speeds of up to 52 km/h while disqualified. The Central District Court in Lod ruled that electric bicycles that do not meet the legal speed limit (25 km/h) may be considered motor vehicles requiring a driver's license and registration. The decision was made in an appeal filed by the police against the release of Dvir Gozlan, who was allegedly arrested while riding an electric scooter at speeds of up to 52 km/h while his license was suspended. Judge Solkin accepted the police appeal, canceled Gozlan's release, and ordered his detention until further notice. Gozlan is charged with seven offenses, including driving while disqualified, reckless driving, and driving without a license. The police have 37 traffic convictions since 2014, 29 of which since 2020, as well as criminal convictions for threats and assaulting a partner. The decision emphasizes that the duty to check whether a vehicle requires a driver's license rests with the driver, and that ignorance of the regulations does not exempt from responsibility.
