Welch said in a statement issued on Friday, September 18, that the proposed deal includes about 60,000 bombs, each weighing one or two tons, noting that these munitions "turned Gaza into a sea of rubble" and killed tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians. He added that over two million Palestinians are living amid the destruction, including hundreds of thousands of children, with limited access to food, shelter, basic medical care, drinking water, and means of earning a living. Welch called on Congress to stop the deal, arguing that sending more bombs to the Netanyahu government would prolong what he described as a humanitarian and foreign policy catastrophe.
