Two days to the polls: the Haredi parties are putting all their power into the field
Two days before the elections, Shas convened the Council of Torah Sages and yeshiva heads, and United Torah Judaism held a mass rally in Bnei Brak. The parties combine an online campaign with rabbinical gatherings to encourage voting.
Two days before the polls open on Tuesday, October 27, the Haredi parties Shas and United Torah Judaism are intensifying their campaign efforts. Shas convened members of the Council of Torah Sages and about 200 yeshiva heads at a gathering at the Nof Hall in Jerusalem, aimed at mobilizing the public to vote. Meanwhile, United Torah Judaism held a mass rally in Bnei Brak with tens of thousands of participants. Shas's campaign included videos, one showing a Torah student and an IDF soldier sitting around a Shabbat table, with MK Yosef Taieb explaining the message is mutual appreciation. Another video by the movement, featuring a Sephardic soldier in uniform, was disqualified by the chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, for allegedly using IDF uniforms for propaganda. Shas also launched an outdoor campaign under the slogan "Don't let them win. It's in our souls!" United Torah Judaism, led by MK Yaakov Asher, opened its campaign with a catchy song about drafting yeshiva students and unity in the Haredi public. The rally led by Rabbi Dov Landau continues an election tradition, about three weeks after the two parties signed a surplus agreement.
