Two days before the elections: Shin Bet will secure Yair Golan starting this morning
Two days before the elections, the Shin Bet announced that it will secure Yair Golan starting this morning at state expense, after the Democrats party petitioned the High Court of Justice. Meanwhile, Gadi Eisenkot will be secured through a private security company.
Two days before the elections, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) informed the office of the chairman of the Democrats party, Yair Golan, that starting this morning (Sunday) he will be secured under the agency's responsibility and at state expense. The decision was made after the Democrats party petitioned the High Court of Justice demanding that the head of the agency, David Zini, take responsibility for Golan's security, as part of the agency's duty under the law to maintain democratic order. State representatives presented a framework for securing Golan and promised that it would be updated according to situational assessments. This followed a recommendation by the President of the Supreme Court, Justice Yitzhak Amit, for Golan to withdraw his petition, hinting that the court would not intervene in the agency's considerations. Meanwhile, the agency also informed the "Yashar!" party that Gadi Eisenkot will be secured starting this morning through a private security company, which will be guided by the state unit for the protection of personalities. This came after last month the party announced it had been informed by the agency that it did not intend to secure Eisenkot, contrary to the advisory committee's position. The agency stated that Zini approved a series of measures to create an optimal security response for party leaders in accordance with the ministerial committee's decision, and that intelligence units will provide a monitoring and intelligence support envelope including threat monitoring and building a threat picture around all party leaders.
