TV star discovered after five years: "My medical diagnosis was wrong"

Christina Applegate revealed that the diagnosis according to which she suffers from multiple sclerosis was wrong, after five years of living with the diagnosis. The actress said on her podcast that the situation left her in tears, and that she is expected to undergo further tests to find out what is causing the symptoms.

The American actress Christina Applegate, known for the film "Anchorman" and the series "Married... with Children", revealed that she recently discovered that the diagnosis according to which she suffers from multiple sclerosis was wrong. Applegate, who lived for about five years believing she was dealing with the disease, said on her podcast Messy that the news shook her and left her in tears. According to her, in contrast to the sense of relief felt by those around her, she was not happy at all about the discovery. "You don't get a misdiagnosis and then suddenly feel better," she said. "If anything, my condition has worsened." Now, after a pause, she is expected to begin next week another medical investigation in an attempt to understand what is causing the severe symptoms. According to Applegate, the treating doctor suggested she stop the infusion treatments in order to test her body's response, and after the response did not match what is expected of a multiple sclerosis patient, the doctors concluded that she does not have the disease. Dr. Marwa Casey, who was a guest on the podcast, explained that there is no single test that confirms or rules out the disease, and that according to studies, about 15% to 20% of those diagnosed do not actually suffer from it.
