Turmoil in Shas? Senior rabbi in the Sephardic community signs letter against voting for the party
Rabbi Moshe Tzedaka, head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva, signed a letter prohibiting voting for Shas following the party's willingness to draft yeshiva students. Aryeh Deri is pressuring senior rabbis to convince Rabbi Tzedaka to retract his position.
Rabbi Moshe Tzedaka, head of the Porat Yosef Yeshiva and a senior rabbi in the Sephardic Haredi community, signed a letter prohibiting voting for Shas. The letter was published this evening (Saturday) by journalist Ari Kalman on i24NEWS, and was signed following the party's willingness to draft yeshiva students who are not studying. According to the report, the letter was signed after the activity of Rabbi Binyahu Shmueli, who is close to Rabbi Tzedaka. In response, Shas chairman Aryeh Deri is working in these hours to try to get the letter rescinded. Deri is pressuring Rabbi Moshe Maya and Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef to go to Rabbi Tzedaka's home this evening, in an attempt to convince him to retract. The signature of Rabbi Tzedaka, considered one of the senior rabbis in the Sephardic Haredi community, may pose a significant challenge for Shas among the Haredi public.
