In an opinion piece, military commentator Avi Ashkenazi argues that President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu made two mistakes in planning the war against Iran. According to him, after two previous rounds of attack, the pair 'sold fairy tales about victory,' but in reality Iran emerged stronger: it maintains regime stability, continues nuclear development, rebuilds its ballistic missile arsenal, and controls the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el-Mandeb through its Houthi proxy. Ashkenazi calls for the establishment of a broad international coalition, similar to that of 1991, including European and Arab states, to curb the economic pressure on the world. He warns that Iran threatens to fire missiles at Europe, and that disruption to air and sea traffic could lead to price hikes and a severe global crisis.
