Three years since the massacre: the bereaved families cry out in pain, longing and protest on social media

Three years after the October 7 massacre, bereaved families are posting painful posts of longing, memory and criticism of the leadership on social media. TV presenter Guy Zuaretz addressed his nephew Ilai Bra'am who was murdered at Nova, Michal Gabai shared regret over her daughter Shani, and Gal Goren wrote about his parents who were murdered in the Gaza envelope. Alongside the pain, a cry over the lack of taking responsibility.

Three years have passed since the October 7 massacre, and today, Monday, on the anniversary, bereaved families flooded social media with painful eulogies, searing memories and a cry over the loss of their loved ones. Alongside the unimaginable longing for the fallen and murdered, many family members expressed deep frustration that no one in the leadership has yet taken full responsibility for the abandonment and failure that led to the loss of hundreds of civilians and soldiers. TV presenter Guy Zuaretz addressed his nephew Ilai Bra'am, who was murdered at the Nova party in Re'im, and described the ongoing family fracture alongside sharp criticism of the political reality: "I'm ashamed to tell you that since you left, nothing has changed. Everything has stayed the same... He hasn't stepped down from the stage, he insists on moving forward, escaping past accounts." Michal Gabai, mother of Shani Gabai who was murdered at Nova, returned to the land of Re'im and shared regret: "I couldn't stop thinking about the 'if' - if I had managed to reach you, if I had managed to save you." Gal Goren, son of Avner and Mia Goren who were murdered, wrote about his father's final moments: "You survived and even won the battle for the handle several times alone without anyone coming to save you. We citizens were left alone to save ourselves." Meital Weiss, whose father Ilan was murdered and kidnapped, and whose mother Shiri and sister Noga were kidnapped from Be'eri, said: "When they asked me on October 8 if I should ask for forces to be sent to my parents' house - then I understood there was no one left to save."
