"There is no security reason": The expert who warns of Israel's mistake in Syria

Researcher Sima Shine argues that there is no security obstacle to reaching understandings with the al-Sharaa regime in Syria, and warns that the stalemate is deepening Israel's political isolation. Shine said in an interview with 103FM that Israel is moving in the opposite direction from the international system, and that while al-Sharaa is invited to meet with the US president, Israel's prime minister is not. She called for a return to the 1974 lines.

Senior researcher at the Institute for National Security Studies, Sima Shine, argues that there is no real security reason preventing Israel from reaching security understandings with the regime of Ahmed al-Sharaa in Syria. In an interview with 103FM with Gideon Oko and Amichai Attali, Shine warned that Israel is perceived as a recalcitrant factor in the region, and that the continued stalemate only deepens its political isolation. According to her, Israel is moving in the opposite direction from the international system: while al-Sharaa is invited to meet with the US president, Israel's prime minister is not. Shine cited the speech of Jordan's King Abdullah at the UN General Assembly, who attacked Israel for taking pieces of territory, and called for a return to the 1974 lines. She described the government as paralyzed in this regard, unable to do anything perceived as a concession. Al-Sharaa himself claimed that Israel and Syria had reached understandings on almost 90 percent of the issues, but Israel withdrew at the last stage. He reiterated his demand for an Israeli withdrawal to the lines set in the 1974 disengagement agreement.
