Qatar mediates US-Iran proposal to lift blockade for nuclear inspections
Qatar is mediating a proposal to end the US-Iran war, involving lifting the naval blockade and releasing frozen assets in exchange for IAEA inspections of bombed nuclear sites and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Iran also demands an end to the war in Lebanon and sanctions relief.
Qatar is promoting a new framework to end the war between the United States and Iran, centered on reopening the Strait of Hormuz and renewing international oversight of Iran's nuclear program. According to a report in The Guardian, the proposal includes an immediate lifting of the US naval blockade and the release of some frozen Iranian assets, totaling about eight billion dollars. In return, Tehran would allow IAEA inspectors to visit bombed nuclear facilities, but the framework does not require it to remove uranium stockpiles from its territory. The opening of the Strait of Hormuz would take place on the second day of the agreement's implementation, via a route agreed with Oman. However, Iran sets additional conditions: ending the war in Lebanon, withdrawal of US forces from the Iranian coastline, lifting sanctions, and war reparations. Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance is involved in indirect talks with Iran, and according to sources, slow progress has been made. Trump told reporters, "We are talking to them," but the US military is prepared to resume strikes.
