Footage from the event shows Subianto wearing a keffiyeh given by the Palestinian ambassador to Indonesia, Abd al-Fattah al-Satari, and chanting "Free Palestine" several times. These remarks come nearly a year after the Indonesian president sounded completely different on the stage of the UN General Assembly, where he spoke in a surprising tone towards Israel, saying that the world must recognize, respect, and ensure Israel's safety and security. In the background are also previously published reports about the possibility of Subianto visiting Israel after a ceasefire and hostage release deal in Gaza, reports that were strongly denied by Indonesia. According to the Indonesian news agency Antara, Subianto said in his speech that the attacks against Palestinians should encourage Indonesia to build its national strength, so that it can help "oppressed peoples."
