The most in-demand professions in Israel – ranking
Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics has published data on the most in-demand professions in the labor market for June-August 2026. Engineers lead with 11,161 vacancies per month, followed by sales specialists (10,785) and waiters and bartenders (8,795). Software developers ranked only fourth (6,202). Demand for some professions declined, while demand for network technicians rose by 20%.
Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics has published a ranking of the most in-demand professions in the labor market for the period from June to August 2026. According to the data, the highest number of vacancies was for engineers, averaging 11,161 per month. In second place were sales specialists (10,785), and in third place, waiters and bartenders (8,795). Software developers, despite the dominance of high-tech, ranked only fourth with 6,202 vacancies. The top ten also included kitchen workers and cleaners, truck and bus drivers, patient care workers, cooks, construction workers, engineers and technicians, and security guards. Demand for some professions declined: the number of vacancies for kitchen workers and cleaners fell the most (by 14%), for telemarketers (by 13%), and for waiters and bartenders (by 9%). In the high-tech sector, vacancies for software developers decreased by 9%, and for engineers by 7%. At the same time, demand grew for network technicians (by 20%), patient and elderly care workers (by 5%), engineers and technicians (by 4%), cooks (by 3%), and drivers and sales workers (by 2%). Overall, Israel's labor market in August showed a slight reduction in the number of vacancies, from 146,133 in July to 142,949. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 3.1% to 2.8%.
