In Tuscany, the largest wine theft in Italian history has occurred: 30,000 bottles of elite alcohol worth 5 million euros were stolen from the storage facility of Marchesi Antinori. The crime took place over the weekend near Cortona. A gang of at least seven people acted professionally: they completely deactivated the alarm system and surveillance cameras, then drove two trucks onto the premises. They used forklifts found in the warehouse to load the crates. The theft was discovered on Monday morning, October 5. Among the stolen items are about 10,000 bottles of the cult wine Solaia from the 2023 vintage, as well as prestigious varieties Tignanello and Guado al Tasso. The retail price of each bottle ranges from 150 to 500 euros. Executive director Renzo Cotarella believes the same group that has raided other Italian wineries in recent months is responsible. Experts note that a theft of this scale has no precedent in the country's modern history. The police and carabinieri are conducting the search. The holding's management has sent warnings to international partners about the possible appearance of stolen alcohol on the black market.
