The end of the era of teaching assistants? 'Angelina' and 'Aaron the Owl' will train the teachers of the future

Beit Berl College is integrating an AI-based digital teaching assistant named 'Angelina' into teacher training, alongside other agents such as 'Aaron the Owl'. The tools will practice with students, check assignments, identify difficulties, and simulate classroom situations. The college president, Prof. Yuli Tamir, emphasized that AI is not a replacement for a lecturer but a tool to strengthen teaching.

Beit Berl College is launching a broad integration of artificial intelligence into teacher training for the academic year 2025-2026. At the center of the initiative is 'Angelina', an AI-based digital teaching assistant operating within the Moodle environment. Angelina is familiar with course materials, syllabi, and rubrics, and is capable of practicing with students, providing feedback on assignments, proactively contacting them to remind them of tasks or encourage practice, and providing the lecturer with a status report on student progress and difficulties. Alongside her, 'Aaron the Owl', an AI agent for transcribing, translating, and summarizing recorded lectures and creating tests, will be integrated, as well as a classroom management simulation system. The college president, Prof. Yuli Tamir, was quoted as saying that an AI-integrated education system is an essential tool for quality teaching, and that the question is not whether to use it but how to train educators for responsible use. According to her, AI is not a replacement for a lecturer but a tool to strengthen teaching and human connection. Roee Shilo, founder of Angelina, added that true integration of AI in organizations begins with managed digital workers with a defined role and clear boundaries.
