Brig. Gen. (res.) Ofer Winter, chairman of the People of Israel party, was confronted by anti-draft haredi protesters in Bnei Brak on Thursday, where he had gone to speak with haredi individuals enlisting in the IDF. Protesters from the Jerusalem Faction (Peleg Yerushalmi) hurled insults including "Nazi, dog. Get out of here!" and called him an "antisemite." Winter responded by telling the protesters they were "bringing disgrace upon the Torah" and asked one, "Why are you here attacking me instead of studying Torah?" He promoted his "Servants' Law" proposal, stating that those who serve will receive more while those who do not regularize their status will receive nothing. Winter argued that he had successfully integrated and recruited haredi soldiers into specialized IDF companies he established, a feat he claimed surpassed what "sideline shouters" could achieve. Separately, hundreds of haredi demonstrators gathered to protest the arrest of draft evaders near the Chords Bridge in Jerusalem and in central Israel, disrupting Jerusalem's light rail operations and closing Highway 4. Police Commissioner Daniel Levy stated that protest is a right but disturbing public order is not.
