"The Democrats": If Zini does not order security for Yair Golan within four days - we will petition the High Court
The Democrats party is threatening to petition the High Court if Shin Bet chief David Zini does not decide within four days on providing security for party chairman Yair Golan, following explicit threats to his life on social media. The threat level for Golan stands at level 4 out of 6, and has risen significantly in recent months.
Nearly two weeks after the ministerial committee on Shin Bet affairs recommended that Shin Bet chief David Zini decide how to secure party leaders who are not ministers or Knesset members — Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot, The Democrats chairman Yair Golan, and Amcha Yisrael chairman Ofer Winter — none of them have yet been provided with security. They continue to rely on private security guards. The police's threatened persons unit has determined that the threat level for Eisenkot and Golan stands at level 4 out of 6. The threat level for Golan has risen significantly in recent months, especially since Sara Netanyahu's interview in which she raised the possibility that he had prior knowledge of the events of October 7. In a sharp letter sent to Zini, the party's legal counsel listed a long series of social media posts containing explicit threats to Golan's life, including: "Yair Golan, we will gouge out your eyes. You and your family will be erased. Your sentence is hanging you and your family," and "Judeans like Yair Golan should face a military court and be executed for treason against the state." The party warns that ignoring the threats could lead to harm to his life, and demands a response within four days, failing which it will petition the High Court.
