The countries that left the hall during Netanyahu's UN speech — and those that stayed

Israel's UN mission compiled an initial analysis of attendance in the General Assembly hall during Netanyahu's speech. According to the analysis, 78 countries were not present in the hall, compared to 70 last year. The US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, India, Japan, Canada, Australia, Russia, and China stayed. The UAE and Bahrain were the only Arab countries that remained. Ambassador Danon claimed the walkout was staged.

Israel's UN mission compiled an initial analysis of attendance in the General Assembly hall during Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech two days ago (Thursday). According to the analysis, 78 countries were not present in the hall during the speech, compared to 70 countries that walked out last year. However, some delegates who left when Netanyahu took the podium returned to the hall during the speech. Out of 193 member states and two observer states, 117 delegations were present in the hall, including the US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, India, Japan, Canada, Australia, Russia, and China. Among Arab countries, the UAE and Bahrain were the only ones that remained. The other Arab countries, along with Iran, Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, and South Africa, were among those not present. Spain was the only European country that left. Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon claimed the mass walkout was a "pre-planned political show" and called it a "transparent and embarrassing PR campaign." According to the Israeli analysis, the Palestinian delegation had previously approached countries asking them to seat all their representatives in order to leave together in a conspicuous and photographed manner. Additionally, elements affiliated with Iran circulated an old video from 2023 claiming it documented the Israeli ambassador being escorted out of the hall, raising suspicion of deliberate deception.
