Shas chairman Aryeh Deri announced today (Thursday) a new election campaign called "Tefillin for Every Child." Under the plan, every boy in Israel who turns 13 will receive a bar mitzvah kit from the education system, including tefillin and a tallit. Additionally, Deri announced that Shas will work to require the education system to allocate prayer spaces in schools for students who wish to pray. Deri attacked the chairman of the Democrats party, Yair Golan, and said the plan is "Shas's answer to Yair Golan, who wants to erase religion from the public sphere." He quoted verses and said tefillin are "our spiritual power to defeat all our enemies." The article does not include Golan's response.
